| A Message from Mayor Adolph McLendon |
Welcome to the City of Richland, Georgia, and thank you for visiting our website. Richland is located 30 miles southeast of Columbus, Ga. and Fort Benning, home of the U.S. Army Infantry School. The fabled Chattahoochee River runs the entire length of our county’s western border. Our rich agricultural history spans nearly two hundred years and many successful family farms still dot the landscape of our county. Richland was once a major rail crossroads and that tradition endures. Our City Hall occupies the historic Rail Depot, which has been beautifully renovated. Our Railroad Museum, also housed in the Depot, chronicles the role that the railroad has played in our history since it came to town in 1885. Just a few miles from Richland are located two outstanding Georgia State Parks. Providence Canyon is sometimes called Georgia’s Little Grand Canyon, and can only be appreciated by those who have visited it. Florence Marina State Park lies along the upper reaches of Lake Walter F. George, and offers some of the best fishing in the state. The farmland surrounding Richland offers healthy populations of deer, quail, wild turkey and boar, and our county is becoming one of the most popular ecotourism destinations in central Georgia for hunters from all over the Southeast. I am excited with recent developments and opportunities that are coming together to reinvigorate and revitalize our great small town. Richland is located on Corridor Z, a state parkway connecting Columbus and 1-75. Enjoy our Web site and visit us in person any time. Come to one of our signature events during the summer and fall to see Richland at its very best. We look forward to entertaining you. Adolph McLendon |
